Kecia Bradley of Clovis, N.M., has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Insurance and Financial Services Program in the College of Business at New Mexico State University.
Bradley is a senior majoring in agricultural economics and business, with a minor in insurance. She has a 3.6 GPA. Last summer she worked as an intern at General Insurance Agency in Clovis. She also studied for, and passed, the examination required to become a licensed property and casualty agent in New Mexico.
During the school year, Bradley works in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. In addition to working and excelling in academics, she is an active member of Campus Crusade for Christ and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Bradley also was a student academic mentor and an ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. After graduation, Bradley plans to work in an insurance related field in New Mexico.
The $5,000 scholarship is awarded by the IFSC to an outstanding student in insurance studies. NMSU is the only university in the Rocky Mountain area which offers a minor in insurance. In addition to completing insurance coursework, students who participate in the program encounter opportunities for scholarships and internships with insurance companies and agencies throughout the west. They also receive individual advising from faculty members that have extensive contacts in the insurance industry. Scholarships in the program are provided by businesses within the insurance industry. Over the past four years insurance businesses have given $1.4 million to support the Insurance Studies Program at NMSU.
